Cathedral High School has a comprehensive guidance program which continues through the student’s four years of attendance. The guidance program consists of individual guidance consultation services which are available for all students. Our department consists of four full time Guidance Counselors, one of which is a Social Worker. Each student's Guidance Counselor covers appropriate subject matter pertaining to that particular grade level’s activities and needs. Some subjects covered over the four year period are:
The guidance department also has many guest speakers and college representatives who visit the school each year. Students are made aware of opportunities for internships, special programs, and seminars. In addition, there are a number of College Fairs that are held in the school where 75-100 colleges are represented. Each year a guest speaker is invited to the school to conduct a College Application presentation for parents and students. The speaker answers questions regarding financial aid and the application process, which is often a vital part of the student’s consideration of a college choice.
To assist with these services, the guidance department has an extensive library of catalogues, videos, financial aid forms, scholarship data, and other vital information that the students can access in the Guidance Suite. Here, information is posted stating the dates and times of all college visits, college open houses, and SAT/PSAT preparation programs available in our area. Information for students is also posted on the school website, www.cathedralhs.org. Cathedral High School firmly believes in the total development of a student’s mind, character, body, heart and soul. The guidance department is a part of that belief.
