Technology
Cathedral's Resources:
 |
A
high-speed T1 dedicated line
|
 |
Three
file servers—two Novell and one Unix. All classrooms are wired and are networked and have Internet
access.
|
 |
There
are two fully functional 35-station networked computer labs whereby
students are instructed in Internet resources, web development, and
computer applications.
|
 |
A 31-station
lab, networked and considered a drop-in lab, exists for interdisciplinary
use. The math
department uses specialty software to instruct and to reinforce. Social
Studies and English use word processing, and the Internet is especially
useful for research papers. Writing Solutions is available to
students in the English Department for developing writing skills.
|
 |
Students
can access science, math, social studies, and language arts programs from
any location in the school using a 14-bay CD resource located in the
library.
|
 |
All
computers labs are equipped with Microsoft Professional Suite 2000. Courses
are offered in keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, database, web
development, and graphic arts.
|
 |
Upon
entering as freshmen, students are assigned individual user identification
and passwords for the network and e-mail.
Each staff member and student has an e-mail account.
|
 |
The
library has nine computer stations in the main area and ten in its
resource room. The software
Winnebago Spectrum is used for the card catalog and for checking materials
in and out of the library. There is an on-line periodical
database--the Gale Group.
|
 |
For
classroom instruction, teachers have access to three computers on wheels (COWs).
Each COW allows for large screen projection. Four laptops are
also available for large screen projection. From two to five
computers have been placed in the classrooms for Internet research
sources.
|
 |
Each
science lab contains ten computer stations.
|
 |
The
Art Department is equipped with 10 workstations, color printers,
flat-bed color scanners, and drawing tablets.
|
 |
Administrative
school system software is utilized for attendance, report cards, and
various summary reports.
|
 |
All students
and faculty are required to sign an Internet Use Policy. All
computers have the appropriate blocking software.

Planned Impact in Curricular Areas:
Humanities: Cathedral
expects to develop through the Internet potential the students’ research
capabilities and to launch cooperative projects in the social studies and
English units as planned by their teachers.
Growth is anticipated in writing and communication skills.
Math, Science and Gateways to Health:
Cathedral anticipates a deep exploration of student research capacity of
environmental issues and their impact on health.
Faculty plan on making math a very real tool through the development of a math
lab, PowerPoint presentations, and on-line teacher presentations for remedial
instruction.
The Fine Arts: The
Art Department recently acquired ten new multimedia computers, color printers,
flat-bed color scanners, and drawings tablets.
The computers are connected to the network and to the Internet.
Software includes Adobe Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Director 6, xRes3,
Extreme 3D2. Students will be
provided experiences in animation and drawing.
The technology will help demonstrate aesthetic perception, art history,
creative expression, fashion design and fashion trends.
International cultural events influencing art and fashion will also be
explored.
