Cathedral's Resources:

§  A high-speed T1 (Full 10 Mbps bandwidth) dedicated line which provides direct connectivity to the Internet

§  Four file servers—four Microsoft Windows and one Unix.  All classrooms are wired and connected to the LAN, and all have Internet access.

§  Two fully functional 35-station networked computer labs for student instruction in computer applications, Internet resources, graphic design, and web development.  Students have access before and after school to do basic word processing, to conduct research, and to complete assignments.

§  One 31-station lab, networked and considered a drop-in lab, exists for interdisciplinary use.  The lab remains open after school for those students doing research projects.

§  Nine Smartboards are in math, science, English, and social studies classrooms.

§  Art Room has ten computers with paint and drawing software.

§  All lab computers are equipped with Microsoft Professional Suite 2007.

§  All computers have been upgraded to the operating system Windows XP

§  All computers have printing capability via network printers.

§  The graphic design software has been upgraded to Adobe Creative Suite 3

§  The school newspaper benefits from Adobe InDesign for layout and printing

§  Web development is taught using Macromedia Studio 8

§  All faculty, staff, and students have an assigned individual user identification and password for the network, e-mail, and the school management software.

§  The library has nine computer stations in the main area and ten in its resource room.  The software Winnebago Spectrum is used for the card catalog and for the circulation of materials.

§  Library computers are available before and after school and during studies for student access to school collections, the Internet, and electronic resources.

§  For attendance, there is at least one networked computer in each classroom.

§  For classroom instruction, teachers have access to projectors and laptops on wheels (COWs).  Each COW allows for large screen projection.

§  Three DVD home theater systems with attached LCD projectors

§  Each science lab contains 15 laptop computer stations.

§  Guidance Department encourages students to use the Internet for college information, searches, and application submission

§  The yearbook staff uses six computers equipped with the necessary yearbook software.

§  The English Department utilizes six computers, equipped with Read 180 software, to improve reading skills.

§  Administrative school system management software is utilized for grades, attendance, report cards, and various summary reports.

§  Teachers use the web-based software Edline to document student academic progress, provide supplementary instruction, post assignments, and communicate with parents.

§  Parents have access to Edline for checking homework and assignments, activities, reports, grades, and test dates.

§  All guidance personnel have computers with administrative school system viewing rights.

§  Faculty has access to computers in two locations and use basic computer operations such as email, spreadsheets, and word processing.

§  RISO color printer with Data Tools software for test creation and assessment

§  Student and Faculty Use Policies are in place.

§  Filter software is consistent with the Child Internet Protection Act.

§  Maintenance of a school web site (www.cathedralhs.org).

§  Full-time Technology Coordinator—Duties include liaison to system engineer and principal, equipment maintenance and upgrading, troubleshooting, staff development, inventory, equipment and software development, e-rate program, and technology committee direction.

Planned Impact in Curricular Areas:

Humanities:  Cathedral expects to develop through the Internet potential the students’ research capabilities and to launch cooperative projects in the social studies and English units as planned by their teachers.  Growth is anticipated in writing and communication skills.

Math, Science and Gateways to Health:  Cathedral anticipates a deep exploration of student research capacity of environmental issues and their impact on health.  Faculty plan on making math a very real tool through the development of a math lab, PowerPoint presentations, and on-line teacher presentations for remedial instruction.

The Fine Arts:  The Art Department recently acquired ten new multimedia computers, color printers, flat-bed color scanners, and drawings tablets.  The computers are connected to the network and to the Internet.  Software includes Adobe Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Director 6, xRes3, Extreme 3D2.  Students will be provided experiences in animation and drawing.  The technology will help demonstrate aesthetic perception, art history, creative expression, fashion design and fashion trends.  International cultural events influencing art and fashion will also be explored.
