Summer Programs--

Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors
 

  • Manhattan College in the Bronx is hosting a Summer Program in science, engineering, and SAT prep.  There is NO cost for this program.  The program will be held July 7-22.  Please see your guidance counselor for more information.
     
  • Microsoft is offering a DigiGirlz High Tech Summer Camp in the following eight locations: Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; Fargo, ND; Irvine, CA; Las Colinas, TX; Redmond, WA (corporate); Stony Brook, NY; and Washington, DC.  The camp was developed to provide girls with a better understanding of what a career in technology is all about. This exciting three to five day experience provides opportunities to learn about careers in technology, talk with Microsoft employees about their life experiences, and enjoy hands-on computer and technology workshops.  To apply, you need to complete the online application form which is available at: https://www.microsoft.com/about/diversity/programs/camps.mspx  In addition to providing contact information you will be asked to submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor and answer two essay questions.
     
  • The University of Dallas has two summer programs; one of which is in Europe.  Shakespeare in Italy, July 21-August 5, is a course where students will study three of Shakespeare’s plays while traveling through Rome and Venice.  Arete, July 13-26, introduces students to texts of Western Civilization and allows them to reflect on workds of fine art, film and music.  Students in the Arete program will live on the campus of the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas.  For more information visit http://www.udallas.edu/travel/
     
  • The New York Film Academy has Summer Camps for Film and Acting.  Camps are held in Paris, France; London, England; Florence, Italy; Disney-MGM Studios, Florida; Universal Studios, California; Harvard University, Boston; and in Union Square, Tribeca and the Dalton School, NYC.  Dates and tuition vary among programs.  Check the website for more information www.nyfa.com/summer_camp.
     
  • The Summer Study Programs offer challenging courses with the spirit of exciting campus life.  Summer Study has several summer enrichment programs in different locations.  Penn State University has a 3 ½-week program from July 6-29; the University of Colorado at Boulder has a 3-week program from July 6-26; Summer Study in Paris has a 3-week program from July 6-July 26 and a 5-week program from July 6-August 8.  Financial aid is available.  Different fees apply.  Visit www.summerstudy.com for more information.
     
  • Boston University has a two-week residential program in two non-credit seminars in business, creative writing, the history of Boston, international politics, introduction to Chinese, journalism, law, mass communication, persuasive writing, abnormal psychology, and visual arts.  Sessions are July 6-18 or July 27-August 8.  Tuition is $2,970.  Visit www.bu.edu/summer/highschool for application details.
     
  • Academic Study Associates (ASA) has several Pre-College Summer Enrichment Programs in different locations.  The University of Massachusetts in Amherst and The University of California at Berkeley are holding their programs June 29- July 26; Oxford University in England is holding their program July 22-August 10; and Cambridge University in England is holding their program July 7-August 2.  They offer a wide variety of programs.  Tuition prices vary based on program.  For more details visit www.asaprograms.com
     
  • Alfred University in upstate NY has several summer programs that last for less than a week during the month of July.  There are programs in Creative Writing, Business, Astronomy, Women’s Leadership, Theater, Computer Engineering, Equestrian, Basketball, Art Portfolio Prep and Swimming.  Each program has a different age requirement, fee and application deadline.  Visit www.alfred.edu/summer for more information.
     
  • Northfield Mount Hermon School in Northfield, MA has a College Prep (tuition $6,000) and an ESL ($6,200) summer session from June 28-August 2; and a New Zealand Summer Abroad program (tuition $6,200) from June 22-July 27.  Visit http://www.nmhschool.org/summer/ for more information.
     
  • The School of Cinema and Performing Arts is offering summer programs ranging from two to six weeks in Filmmaking, Acting for Film, Photography and Dance.  Campuses are located in Brooklyn, New York; London, England; Los Angeles, California and Vermont.  Tuition ranges from $2,000- $3,495 with a $500 non-refundable deposit.  Visit www.socapa.org for more information on program dates and tuition.
     
  • The Putney School in Vermont has programs in Visual Arts, Creative Writing, Performing Arts, and ESL.  There are two sessions.  Session one is June 22-July 11; session two is July 13- August 1.  Tuition plus boarding is $3,300- $6,200 depending on the number of sessions you attend.  Financial Aid is available.  Visit www.putneyschool.org/summer for more information.
     
  • NYS Summer School of the Arts has programs for students interested in auditioning for any of the eight participating schools:  The School of Ballet, School of Choral Studies, School of Dance, School of Jazz, School of Media Arts, School of Orchestral Studies, School of Theatre, and School of Visual Arts.  Tuition varies from $1,100- $1,500 and program dates vary depending on the school.  For application and audition deadline dates visit www.emsc.nysed.gov/nysssa.
     
  • The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. has an intense three-week summer program in architecture and other design-related fields.  The session runs from July 7-25 for $1,499 plus room and board.  Visit http://architecture.cua.edu/experiences for more information. 
     
  • The CATALYST Academy at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY is a one-week summer residential program for high school students who excel in math and science and want to learn more about careers in engineering.  The program is from July 20-26 and costs $650.  You must have an 85 average.  Freshmen must have completed Algebra 2 and 2 science courses by June 2008; Sophomores and Juniors must have completed Algebra 2 and 3 science courses by June 2008.  You need to write an essay and have a teacher recommendation.  Visit www.engineering.cornell.edu/curie for more information.
     

Sophomores and Juniors
 

  • Bryn Mawr College has three summer programs.  Writing for College, from June 22-July 12 prepares students to write well for college.  Science for College, from June 22-July 12 is a hands-on preparation for college science.  Women of Distinction, from July 13-18 helps students navigate the college admissions process.  Tuition costs vary.  Visit www.brynmawr.edu/summerprograms for details.
     
  • Washington University in St. Louis has a Summer Scholars Program that takes place from July13 -August 15.  You can take courses in Languages, Arts, Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences.  You must have an SAT score of 1800, PSAT of 180 or ACT of 25.  Application deadline is June 6th.  Visit www.summerscholars.wustl.edu for more information and program fees.
     
  • Academic Study Associates (ASA) has several summer programs in different locations.  There are three College Admissions Prep Programs located at Tufts University in MA (June 29-July 10), Columbia University (July 13-24), and University of California at Berkeley (July 29- August 9).  There are four language immersion programs in France, Spain, Italy and Costa Rica.  The program in Nice, France is from June 29-July 26 with an optional extension in Paris.  The program in Florence, Italy is June 27-July 25.  For more details visit www.asaprograms.com.
     
  • The CURIE Academy at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY is a one-week summer residential program for high school girls who excel in math and science and want to learn more about careers in engineering.  The program in from July 20-26 and costs $650.  You must have an 85 average and have completed at least 3 science courses and Algebra 2 by June 2008.  Visit www.engineering.cornell.edu/curie for more information.

  • Pace University in NYC has a Summer Scholars Program from July 12-19th.  The program is designed to give you the experience of the college atmosphere through challenging liberal arts studies.  You must have at least an 85 average.  Visit www.pace.edu/summerscholars for more information on tuition.  The application deadline is June 20, 2008.
     
  • Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. has a Summer College Program from July 6-Aug 8; an American Politics and Public Affairs Program from July 20-27; and an International Relations Program from July 13-20.   Prices vary.  Visit http://summer.georgetown.edu/2008 for more details on tuition and deadline dates. 
     

Juniors
 

  • Fordham University is offering their Pre-College Summer Program at both their Rose Hill campus in the Bronx and their Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan.  You must have an 85 average or higher.  They offer courses in a wide range of fields.  The program runs from June 30-August 5 and costs $1,860 for a three-credit course and $2,480 for a four-credit course.  Application deadline is June 2, 2008.  Please visit www.fordham.edu/summer for more details. 
     
  • The College of New Rochelle has a College Enhancement Program where you can obtain college credits.  They are offering three-credit courses in a variety of subjects at a cost of $200 per course from June 30-August 1st.  See your counselor for a list of courses that are being offered or call (914) 654-5487 for details.
