1) MetroPCS and Kyocera are awarding a $25,000 grand prize scholarship, 83 $2,500 local scholarships, and a Kyocera phone with one year of free MetroPCS service to high school seniors that get involved in their community. Deadline is 11/25/09. 2) The AXA Achievement Scholarship (deadline 12/15/09) awards scholarships to students who show ambition and drive; determination to set and reach goals; respect for self, family and community; and the ability to succeed in college. Visit www.axa-achievement.com for details. 3) The NY Water Environment Association has a $1,500 scholarship (deadline 1/21/10). You must be a NYS resident, attend a 4-year college or university and major in a program whose focus is environmental issues. Visit http://nywea.org/schol/ for more details. 4) JPMorgan Chase Smart Start Scholarship (deadline 1/25/10) awards a four-year full tuition scholarship at one of its member colleges. The scholarship is open to all NYC residents who plan to attend college in the Fall of 2010. The scholarship applies to all majors except life sciences and fine arts. It requires that you take the SAT I exam no later than December 2009 and submit an essay. Visit www.jpmorganchase.com/smartstart or see your guidance counselor for more details. 5) KFC is looking for outstanding seniors with financial need to qualify for the Colonel’s Scholars program. You must enroll in a 4-year SUNY or CUNY school, be a US citizen or permanent resident and maintain a 2.75 GPA. The online application will be available from December 1st to February 10. Go to www.kfcscholars.org to apply. 6) Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go! College Scholarship (deadline 2/15/10) recognizes high school seniors who understand and value the limitless possibilities that education can offer with a scholarship award. One $5,000 scholarship will be awarded. You must submit an essay.
