COURSE
DESCRIPTIONS
INTEGRATED ALGEBRA
For students who are currently in
Pre-Algebra and will be taking the Integrated Algebra Regents in January of their junior year.
PREREQUISITE: 65% in
Pre-Algebra
GEOMETRY
A one-year course for students taking
Integrated Algebra and who will be taking an Integrated Algebra Regents in January of sophomore year.
PREREQUISITE:
65% in
Pre-Algebra I
INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA
A full-year course for those who have
completed Algebra HRL/HR or Geometry and passed the Math A exam.
PREREQUISITE:
65% or above on the Math A exam
INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA/TRIGONOMETRY HR/HRL
For students taking Algebra HR/HRL and
will be taking the Math B exam in January of junior year.
PREREQUISITE: 85% or
above on the Math A exam
TRIGONOMETRY
A
full-year course for students who have completed Intermediate Algebra and who
have achieved an average of at least 75. It is important for students to keep
in mind that success in Trigonometry depends upon a strong knowledge of Algebra.
PREREQUISITE:
65% or above average on the Math A exam.
ADVANCED
ALGEBRA
For students who have completed Intermediate Algebra/Trig. HRL/HR or Trig and who have achieved an average of at
least 75. This full-year course is designed as a survey of various types of
college mathematics. Students will take the Math B exam in January of Senior
year.
PREREQUISITE:
75% or above average on the Math A exam.
PRECALCULUS
A full-year course for students who
have completed Intermediate Alg/Trig HR/HRL or Advanced Algebra and who passed
the Math A exam and have the recommendation of their present math teacher. This
course is designed as a preparation for college calculus. Students will take
the Math B exam in January.
PREREQUISITE:
85% or above on the Math A exam
ADVANCED PLACEMENT CALCULUS
A year course for students currently
taking PreCalculus who have the recommendation of their present math teacher.
Students taking this course will take the A.P. Calculus AB exam in May.
Many colleges will grant credit and appropriate placement to students who do
well in the examination. Examination Fee: Approximately $82
PREREQUISITE:
85% on the Math B exam
CALCULUS
A year course for students
currently taking PreCalculus or Advanced Algebra and who have the recommendation
of their present math teacher.
PREREQUISITE:
75% on the Math B exam
SAT MATH
A semester course for juniors and
seniors who wish to raise their SAT scores. This course cannot be used to
replace the regular math class. It can be taken as an extra math class.
MATH INTERNSHIP
For seniors only who wish to be a
Teacher’s Aide in a ninth grade math class. Students will work one-on-one or
with small groups of freshmen who are unskilled in math. Students will receive
one-half credit for each semester that is successfully completed.
PREREQUISITE:
Passing
grade on the Math A exam
Interview and approval by the math chairperson
